Sophi’s Playhouse, Ottawa

In June of this year, our President Richard met City of Ottawa Mayor Larry O’Brien and an officer of the Ottawa Police at the “Ringside for Charity” event. They approached Richard with a request to build a playhouse for a young girl named Sophi whose father Brian was diagnosed with a terminal illness last year.
As we proceeded with the project, we learned a lot about Brian from his closest friends and colleagues. He was strong healthy and always active. He served as a medic with the Canadian Armed Forces in the Gulf war, Afghanistan and Somalia. After leaving the military, he joined the Ottawa Police Force and became an exemplary officer. But, since he has been diagnosed with ALS – not quite a year ago, his health has rapidly deteriorated in only a few months.
Brian’s friends and colleagues have been doing as much as possible to help out the family, from raising money for medical bills to installing ramps in their home for him to get around. When they met with Richard and saw our structures, they thought that it would be great to build something fun for Brian’s daughter Sophi and create a beautiful memory for her and her dad to share.
Everyone in the office from engineers and architects to office administrators had a hand in building the house. All of the SIP’s used in making Sophi’s playhouse were made by hand in our workshop and all of the murals inside were painted by our staff.
Sophi’s Playhouse was presented to the family on July 29th.
